Appointments

New Patient Registration

All new patients wishing to join the GP’s or Dentists patient list in the practice are invited to make an initial registration appointment with one of our doctors. This is a dedicated appointment which needs to be booked in advance so as to provide adequate time for our doctor to take your personal details and medical history. Please specify to our reception that you would like to book a registration appointment.

All new applicants must complete a registration form for our records including PPS number, and details of your previous GP/Dental surgery. Once accepted as a new patient, all applicants will also need to sign a transfer of medical/dental records form so that your complete medical history is forwarded for you.

Please note we are only able to accept private patients and our normal fees apply for all services including your registration appointment.

Payment Policy

At our practice we aim to provide a fair and efficient service for all our patients. To facilitate this, the practice has adopted a policy that all accounts should be settled at the time of your consultation/treatment.

Booking your Appointments

We require a fully-redeemable booking deposit of €50 for all appointments.

Our appointment only surgery allow us to see patients in a timely manner, therefore it is not possible for us to accommodate people who arrive without an appointment. Our receptionist will be pleased to offer the next available appointment so that everyone is seen in a fair order.

If a surgery is fully booked, but a problem is urgent, particularly for a child, please advise our receptionist. We will endeavour to give URGENT problems priority.

Please note that if you are pregnant and become unwell, we will always advise you to go straight to the emergency department of your maternity hospital.

Please be advised that we are a fully private clinic. All ante-natal and check-up visits will incur a consultation fee. We currently cannot accept medical cards, under 6’s, over 70s or GP visit cards.

We always aim to be punctual for your appointment, but medical emergencies may occasionally have to take priority and this can result in delays. Where possible you will be advised of this delay. We would ask you to be patient. If you are unable to wait, we will try to rearrange your appointment to suit you.

Appointment lengths/fees vary depending on the service required, so please advise our receptionist if you are making an appointment with a special purpose eg if your appointment is for more than one patient (family appointment), driving licence medical, cryotherapy etc.

Please note it is not always possible to see patients who arrive late or without an appointment. In the event patients may be asked to make an alternative appropriate appointment

After booking an appointment you will receive a text message asking you to confirm your appointment with a ‘Y’ using the text messaging service. If you have not confirmed, we will phone you to confirm your appointment. If you do not confirm your appointment 24 hours before your scheduled time using the text messaging service or phone call. We will have no choice but to cancel your appointment and offer it to someone else.

Cancelling your appointment:

It is essential that you telephone or email the practice if you cannot keep your appointment. Even at short notice, we can usually allocate your appointment to someone else. Please ensure you cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Patients who fail to come in for scheduled appointments or cancel their appointments within 24 hours, forfeit their booking deposit of €50.

Types of Appointments:

Appointment Length: Our routine appointment system is based upon a fifteen minute consultation. If you feel that you require a longer appointment to discuss more complex issues, please mention this to the receptionist.

Routine Appointments: Please use these for non urgent problems or to follow up a pre-existing condition. In order to provide continuity of care, it is generally best to book with the Doctor you saw originally. These appointments may be booked in advance but you may need to wait a few days to see your preferred Doctor.

Urgent Appointments: If you need to see a GP urgently you can book into the daily Duty Surgery. We may not be able to offer a choice of appointment time or GP. These appointments are designed to cater for one urgent condition and will be slightly shorter than a normal consultation. Please make a routine appointment to discuss non urgent conditions.

2nd Family Member Appointments: Separate appointments must be made for each family member who wishes to be seen. Family members with the “same symptoms” may be accommodated with a shorter concurrent appointment. Please inform reception when booking your appointment if you may need to avail of this service. A reduced 2nd consultation fee is at the discretion of the examining doctor.

NB: Each consultation is unique. GPs train for many years, and take on an enormous level of responsibility every time they examine a patient. In making a diagnosis, they use their entire professional knowledge, experience and judgement to form an expert opinion – it is more than just their “time”. In charging a separate fee, for each individual service provided, we are no different from any other trade or profession.

Missed / Late Appointments: As we run our practice on an appointment only basis, we would greatly appreciate if you could arrive on time for your appointment. If you have made an appointment, then you have a responsibility to attend on time. Please factor in travel time, whether for traffic/bus schedules/parking, and aim to arrive 10 minutes ahead of your appointment time.

Patients who arrive more than 10 minutes late for their appointment may be asked to reschedule their appointment. We would urge you to give us plenty of notice when cancelling an appointment, so that it may be offered to another patient. Patients who repeatedly arrive late/cancel/fail to turn up for their appointment, may be asked to find another doctor, in line with our practice policy.

No Shows:
Please be advised that if you have made an appointment and do not show up for it (and haven’t previously cancelled by phone or email) you will forfeit your booking deposit.

Telephone Advice: Telephone Advice may include queries about a prescription/medication, a test result, a hospital appointment, a referral, a form that needs to be completed, advice about a minor ailment or follow-up to a previous consultation.

Practice policy is that the Doctor will not be interrupted for telephone calls during Consultations or Procedures. If you must speak to a Doctor or Nurse then please leave a clear concise message. The receptionist will discuss your call with the Doctor or Nurse and will contact you with advice as efficiently as possible. Remember most medical queries will require a doctor or nurse to see you so a consultation may be advised.

Emergencies:

Life Threatening Emergencies:
In a life-threatening emergency such as sudden severe chest pain, severe breathlessness, loss of power in a limb, loss of consciousness or severe bleeding dial 112 or 999 to request an ambulance.

Injuries:
The clinic is only equipped to treat minor injuries like small cuts and joint sprains.
If the injury is more severe or may involve a broken bone then you should attend the local A&E Dept.
In the event of poisoning or an overdose, then please contact your nearest A&E department, as soon as possible.

Urgent Problems during Clinic Hours:
If you have an urgent problem during opening times, telephone the clinic on 01 5989412. The receptionist will need to take some details about the problem and arrangements will be made for you to be seen by the doctor as soon as possible.

Locum Cover

From time to time we may have a LOCUM DOCTOR covering for your doctor. At these times we would request that you attend the Locum covering for your doctor.

PLEASE NOTE: All locum doctors are fully qualified doctors and have been fully vetted before being employed by the practice. All Locum doctors will have full access to your medical records.
