Frequently asked questions

Am I a good candidate for this treatment?

IPL treatment as a minimum will stimulate collagen and elastin formation. If there is pigmentation from sun damage/spots, hyperpigmentation and erythema (redness) from acne breakouts, if you suffer from rosacea, IPL will help to even out your skin tone and fade/lift these marks. Photofacial treatments can also work to improve the look of fine lines.

I have darker skin – can I still get this treatment done?

Photofacial treatments work best for light to medium skin tones however we do have other treatment options for darker skin tones or Fitzpatrick V and VI.

Can I do it during my lunch break?

Absolutely! Exact treatment times may vary depending on the patient, but a single session typically takes 15-30 minutes.

How many sessions will I need to see results?

Most patients receive 4-6 treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each individual person and the area being treated. An improvement can be seen from as little as one treatment!

How often/far apart should the treatments be?

Treatments can be done 2-6 weeks apart, your skin practitioner will advise you for your specific concerns.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Stop using your exfoliants and retinoids 3-5 days before treatment. You must also avoid tanning, including self-tanners as treatment cannot be carried out if the treatment area has been tanned (naturally or using tanners). You may be advised to shave the area before your treatment. Remove any jewelry around the area being treated.

How long does a treatment session last?

One session usually lasts 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

What does the treatment feel like?

The IPL treatment feels like a light snap or flick on the surface of the skin.

Will it be painful?

The applicator has a cooling feature built into it to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort if you’re treating a more sensitive area, like the upper lip. Your practitioner will be talking you through the entire treatment and ensuring you are comfortable throughout.

How will I feel after my treatment?

You may feel heat in the area being treated temporarily. Your skin specialist will advise you on how to proceed with your individual aftercare. Make sure to follow all pre- and post-treatment recommendations..

How long will the results last and are they permanent?

Every person is different, our biggest piece of advice to ensure your results last as long as possible is to ensure you wear your SPF every single day! Your skin practitioner will also be advising you of an active and targeted skin care routine to ensure you have lasting results that improve with time.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment however we don’t advise you do strenuous high intensity exercise or go swimming/sauna for 48 hours post treatment. We also advise to not use any exfoliants or retinoids for 3-5 days post treatment

Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

SPF, SPF and…..did we say SPF???

If I got a treatment on my face, can I put makeup up on right after?
